Now that the PlayStation 4 has finally come out, you hurriedly went out to grab one while it’s hot. You’re done setting it up and now it’s time for you to create your user profile and be on your merry way. Your user profile will enable your PS4 to store saved game data, screenshots, videos, achievements, including your preferences to the cloud. But how do you create one with this shiny new console? Just read on to find out how to create a user profile on a Sony PlayStation 4.
So you already have your console turned on. Press the PS button located at the center of your controller to activate the PlayStation 4 DualShock function. Now select the New User option to proceed. On the next screen, selectCreate a User. The other option, Play as a Guest, creates a temporary profile only and is automatically deleted once the player is logged out. After selecting Create a User, accept the user agreement on the next screen.
You will then be directed to the Sign In to PSN screen. If you previously have a PSN account for PlayStation 3 or PS Vita, you can use this to sign in. Fill up the Sign-In ID and Password fields with your login information, and then select the Sign In button. Otherwise, select the New to PSN? Create an Account option, then select Sign Up Now, and follow the on-screen instructions for additional settings in order for you to create a PSN account. Once you have that done, go back to the Sign In screen, enter the login information for the account you’ve just created, and then click Sign In. Your complete name and existing PSN avatar will now be displayed. If ever you would like to change this, you can do so. If you’re already satisfied with your profile settings, hit Next.
Follow the additional privacy settings for Who can see my friends and Who can see my activities, simply follow the on-screen instructions. On the next screen, check and confirm your City, State, and Zip Code information, then select Next. You can also link your Facebook account to your PSN account, if you prefer. Doing this will allow you to post stories, share videos and screenshots. Select Next if you want to link your accounts or select Skip to proceed without linking or if you plan to do this at a later time.
Now, if you have your old PSN account and have already subscribed to PlayStation Plus, you will not see the Choose a Membership screen for PlayStation Plus. PSN accounts that were just created and those who didn’t subscribe to PlayStation Plus will see the Choose a Membership on the next display. If you want to get access to PSN’s free games and to be able to play online multiplayer mode, you need to join the PlayStation Plus service. It has a subscription fee of $9.99 for one month, $17.99 for three months, and $49.99 for one year.
Once you have finished this step, you will now need to designate your console as the primary device for your PlayStation Network account so that the console to store your facial and voice data. This will allow you to sign into your PlayStation 4 console just by standing in front of its camera. You can also check out Activate/Deactivate Primary PS4 for more information about the advantages of having a Primary PS4. The next screen is Add Face Data, where you can teach the console to recognize your face. On this screen, you can click the Start button to enable this feature on the console or just hit the Skip button. Select OK to confirm that whenever you log in to your console, you will also be automatically logged in to your PSN account.
